Congrats, you just selected yourself for one of the most fun and fulfilling jobs in the world. The down side is there an gigantic learning curve and you have to learn (or already know) how to build a website, pick the right content for your site, get traffic to your website and know how to sell the surfer. Some come into the business knowing how to do one of those things, some like me fall ass backwards into all this and are still learning the complexities of the biz.

And if you think I make it still sound easy, that's because I only skimmed the surface. There's knowing your niche, knowing which niches convert or sell well, knowing which type of site to build, installing scripts, the list goes on and on.

You're also competing with literally thousands and thousands of other webmasters from all over the world for the same piece of virtual real estate and some of them have been in the business for quite some time and have a huge advantage in knowledge, money, skills and connections.

So think carefully before you sink a couple of years into this before having to sell your domains and walk away. It's my guess that 70%-80% of new webmasters either give up or never reach the point where they can live off of the earnings from their sites.

Some of you would be better off working at Burger King. Sound harsh? It's the truth. You'd make more money. It might be six months before you see a return on your time and energy in this business. It might be a year before you start making a profit. I've seen it happen.

It's a hard road and a lot of work. Like writers we spend a lot of time alone. It's also an obsession, I never really stop thinking about my sites and the business.

So think about it.

Are you ready to take a ride?

I know a good place to start. It's run by a few people I know who can get on the right path pretty quick if you listen and are willing to learn.

I had considered doing something similar myself awhile back but there's no point in running two projects so similar. Besides, the teachers there can kick my ass all over the internet, lol.

Will chime in with more when I think of what I want to say. WA members welcome to contribute.
